Background
The company has been involved in numerous design and build projects for commercial, industrial, and residential development, and provides a pro-active service to Developers/Contractors, aiming for cost effective schemes at both tender and construction stage. We believe it is important that consultations and negotiations are undertaken with the Client at an early stage to gain benefit over competitors and provide value for money in the methods adopted on site during construction.
Shaw Cross Business Park, Dewsbury
The firm was appointed to assess ground conditions and design and detail new steel frame commercial units on poor ground. The investigation identified varying foundation solutions across the site for differing units to minimise costs. The pavement design was also critical, and designed in consultation with the Contractor, to ensure stability and meet the programme and pricing strategy. Drainage design also involved surface water attenuation and negotiations with the Water Authority.
| "Littlelands", Cottingley
Civil and structural engineering services were provided for the design and construction of a new church, church hall, vestry, vicarage, doctors surgery, and residential properties, together with the road and drainage infrastructure designs. The scheme involved innovative superstructure design and analysis for the church to ensure the structure was stable without the excessive use of masonry cross walls.
The Three Horseshoes, Boroughbridge
This two phase project involved the structural assessment and refurbishment of the existing public house and hotel for conversion and resale as a commercial going concern, and a second phase for new build residential apartments and road and drainage infrastructure design to meet the requirements of Regulatory Authorities. Land boundary disputes and drainage outfall problems were negotiated to a satisfactory conclusion
Headingley Filter Beds, Leeds
The reclamation of the old water-works filter beds and the construction of three new five-storey apartment blocks with ground floor parking, formed part of this development. The buildings are located on the edge of the development, and were complicated by the steeply sloping embankments to adjacent dwellings and infrastructure. Our appointment was to provide structural, civil and geotechnical engineering services.
| Stanley Royd Hospital, Wakefield
This project involved the structural assessment of an existing derelict three-storey hospital, constructed with jack arched floors with concrete slab overlay, and the conversion to residential apartments, involving the opening up of several areas to form new stair cores and increased room sizes. Attendance during the construction was essential to overcome many of the problems for such a complicated refurbishment.
Park Row, Leeds
This project involved the assessment and refurbishment of an existing eight-storey commercial unit in the heart of Leeds, and the introduction of two additional floors for residential development. The scheme involved detailed appraisal, discussion, and detailing for Building Regulations, to ensure stability of the structure and the additional floors.
