Residential

ARP and our staff have vast experience in the residential market, be that with traditional low rise house building, student halls, apartment blocks, high rise flats, Private Rental Sector developments, town houses, single houses, barn conversions, change of use conversions, adaptions and extensions.

We have all the engineering skills necessary to deliver sound and economic solutions for whatever the constraints and challenges are dictated on a development. We like to engage with clients early on in the design process to help steer the design in an efficient manner. We can offer all the pre-planning engineering services that may be necessary for a development such as geo-environmental desk studies and flood risk assessments. We like to maintain our involvement in the project right through until handover and occupation beyond.

Our core teams of geotechnical, civil, structural and building services engineers work collaboratively to determine the best design solutions for each individual project.

We are commonly engaged in large housing developments which requires considerable expertise in efficiently designing the site levels, gradients and the below ground drainage. Our civils team also undertake cut and fill exercises to minimise cost of landfill or import of soil.

Our structural engineers are experienced in all forms of building construction and materials and will often explore options for clients which include off-site prefabrication of components.

Foundation design often has a significant impact on the commercial impact on a residential scheme. As such it is important that the geotechnical, civil and structural engineers work together to determine the best overall design solutions for each individual project which is what we do. Foundation solutions may involve various solutions ranging from ground bearing strip footings and pads to vibro-compaction, rafts and piling.

Our geotechnical and environmental engineers are also regularly having to deal with residential developments on brown field land where often ground remediation and improvement is required. ARP are used to dealing with sites which have challenging ground conditions such as worked coal seams and heavy contamination.

The attention to detail displayed by the building services engineers has ensured the successful delivery of a number of residential schemes of varying sizes. The practice makes strong use of its commercial awareness to provide innovative, cost effective solutions in a wide variety of residential projects of all sizes and complexities. As with all of its projects, the Practice seeks to provide designs that are of a high technical standing, consider energy usage as a primary design factor, and provide design solutions that consider sustainability and future maintenance as core requirements.
